Come be part of an innovative community dental health facility by working at Future Smiles, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) established in 2009, which provides school-based dental services to children throughout southern Nevada. Our mission is to achieve optimum oral health in at-risk populations by increasing access to education, prevention, and restorative treatment of oral disease. *Essential Job Functions* * Evaluate and provide high-quality dental treatment and education to children from infancy through adolescence. * Utilize current noninvasive methods of caries arrest to include silver diamine fluoride and Curodont ™. * Apply basic and advanced behavior guidance techniques to reduce anxiety in pediatric dental patients. * Requires a Doctorate in dentistry from an accredited dental school. * Understanding of infection control, administering medication and dental health promotion and maintenance. * Demonstrated use of medical and dental technologies; performing diagnostic procedures. * Passionate about patient care and public health dentistry. * This position will not oversee any staff and will directly report to the Future Smiles’ Executive Director and Program Director. *Knowledge, Skill and Technical Qualities* * Knowledge of pediatric dental principles and treatment procedures including prevention and treatment of dental disease, pain and infection in the pediatric dental patient * Knowledge of basic and advanced behavior guidance techniques * Knowledge of how to care for children with special needs * Knowledge of public health principles * Ability to be compassionate and culturally sensitive toward underserved and disadvantaged patients and caregivers * Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards * Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements * Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of dental care * Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress * Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe dosage and instruct patients in correct usage * Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients * Prior experience working as a pediatric dentist preferred *Behavioral Qualities* * Must enjoy working with children of all ages * Must display patience and a warm, friendly chairside manner * Must be able to educate and explain dental care in age-appropriate terms * Demonstrate professionalism in appearance and behavior * Places a high value on personal and departmental performance excellence * Must be able to work as part of a cohesive team * Maintains patient confidentiality * Uses sick time appropriately *Core Values* * *Dental Leadership-*Manages dental clinic operations and recommends improvement changes in operational and administrative procedures, supplies, and equipment that would enhance patient care. * *Direct Clinical Services-*Performs professional chairside dental procedures, records dental records with Dentrix software, utilizes digital X-rays with Dexis software, and advises patients on preventive and restorative dental care. * *Quality Assurance-*Monitors and maintains clinic productivity and efficiency assuring quality services are rendered. * *Outreach-*Participates in community outreach programs, health fairs, attends dental and public health conferences, may be asked to present at national conferences about Future Smiles and other dental health programs. *Job Responsibilities* * Prepares treatment room for patient by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols. * Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating, and draping patient. * Provides information to patients and other employees by answering questions and requests. * Maintains instrumentation for dental treatment by proper utilization of hand pieces and instruments. * Selects materials and equipment for dental treatment by evaluating patent’s oral health. * Completes dental prevention and restorative treatment, oral surgery and other dental therapies. * Detects disease by completing oral cancer screening, caries risk assessment, dental examination, radiographic evaluation and prepares treatment planning. * Arrests dental decay by applying fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents. * Maintains patient appearance and ability to properly masticate by taking mouth impressions, fabricating restorations; oral surgery, cleaning and polishing removable appliance; placing, carving, and finishing amalgam restorations; removing cement from crowns and bridges, and fabricating athletic mouth guards. * Helps manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR/AED certification and directory of emergency numbers; and issuing CPR/AED, emergency drugs and oxygen supply; and contacting appropriate emergency contacts. * Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques. * Removes decay from teeth and restores cavities. * Repairs cracked or fractured teeth and extraction of teeth. * Evaluates for orthodontics and refers to specialist. * Places sealants or whitening agents on teeth. * Administers anesthetics and nitrous oxide to keep patients from feeling pain during procedures. * Writes prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications. * Represents Future Smiles with a positive attitude internally and externally. * Attends Future Smiles fundraising and donor events as needed. * Performs any other job-related duties as assigned. *Job Requirements* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each job responsibility satisfactorily. Ability to write detailed instructions and correspondence.
