Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorations, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth workflow and patient comfort.
- Prepare treatment rooms with sterilized instruments and supplies using aseptic techniques to uphold infection control standards.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety protocols.
- Operate dental software systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic, and EMR platforms to accurately document patient information, medical history, and treatment plans.
- Monitor vital signs and medical imaging when necessary, especially in pediatric or medically compromised patients.
- Manage medical documentation and records with precision, including medical coding and ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy rules.
- Support front desk operations by assisting the dental receptionist with appointment scheduling, patient check-in/out, and answering patient inquiries.
- Conduct chairside assisting using advanced skills like four-handed dentistry to improve efficiency during procedures.
- Utilize 3D scanners and other digital tools for diagnostics or treatment planning in general dentistry cases.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care, and preventive measures tailored to pediatric or adult needs.
Requirements
- Valid licensure as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in accordance with state regulations.
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a general dentistry or specialty practice such as prosthodontics or endodontics.
- Proficiency with dental software systems including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Epic or similar EMR platforms.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control procedures, and aseptic techniques.
- Ability to take high-quality X-rays and operate medical imaging equipment safely.
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and medical documentation standards.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to dentistry and pediatrics is highly desirable.
