Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Dental Surgical Assistant to support our dental team in providing comprehensive patient care. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in dental assisting, with expertise in chairside support, infection control, and medical documentation. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic dental clinic environment, assisting with a variety of procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry. The Dental Surgical Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring smooth clinical operations while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and comfort.
Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Assist the dentist during various procedures by handing instruments, managing suction, and ensuring patient comfort.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, DentrixAscend, and Epic to document treatment details accurately.
- Monitor vital signs and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient assessments.
- Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to patients, ensuring they understand care procedures.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and maintaining medical documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment, following infection control standards and aseptic techniques at all times.
- Assist with pediatric dentistry procedures by applying specialized knowledge of pediatric dental terminology and anatomy.
- Collaborate effectively with the dental team to ensure efficient four-handed dentistry practices and optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in dental assisting within a clinical setting, preferably with exposure to general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, or pediatric dentistry.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation standards.
- Familiarity with X-ray techniques, medical imaging including 3D scanners, and vital signs monitoring.
- Strong understanding of infection control protocols, aseptic technique, and dental terminology.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during complex procedures involving medical coding and technical equipment.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics, and coordinating with team members.
