Responsibilities
- Perform dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing, with a focus on pediatric patients’ unique needs
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and evaluating oral health status
- Assist with dental procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficiency and comfort
- Educate young patients and their guardians on proper oral hygiene practices and preventive care strategies
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while adhering to infection prevention protocols and safety standards
- Maintain accurate medical records and document treatment details in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix
- Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations by maintaining patient confidentiality and safeguarding sensitive information
- Prepare dental equipment, sterilize instruments, and uphold infection control standards to prevent cross-contamination
- Support the dental team by chairside assisting during various procedures, including dental imaging and medical imaging techniques
- Review documentation for accuracy, assist with medical coding when necessary, and manage electronic health records efficiently
Experience
- Proven experience as a Dental Hygienist in a pediatric dentistry setting or general dentistry with pediatric care exposure
- Familiarity with Open Dental is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, dental equipment, and infection prevention management
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children and their families to foster trust and cooperation
- Experience in chairside assisting, taking X-rays, vital signs measurement, and patient care documentation
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices including aseptic technique
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced dental office environment while maintaining attention to detail
