Dental Hygienist

Duties

• Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
• Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to infection control standards.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary habits, and preventive care strategies.
• Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting treatment notes, patient responses, and clinical findings in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix. (MUST have dentrix experience)
• Follow strict infection control protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures, to ensure patient safety.
• Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and dental terminology standards.
• Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety.
• Support pediatric dentistry cases by providing specialized care tailored to children’s needs in a compassionate manner.

Experience

• Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a general or perio dentistry setting.
• Proficiency with dental office management software such as Dentrix
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and medical coding procedures.
• Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation review and record keeping.
• Prior experience with chairside assisting and medical imaging techniques is advantageous.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information.
• Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess individual needs effectively.
