Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental conditions to inform treatment plans.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (medical imaging) while adhering to infection control standards.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary habits, and preventive care strategies.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure smooth workflow.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting treatment notes, patient responses, and clinical findings in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix. (MUST have dentrix experience)
- Follow strict infection control protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures, to ensure patient safety.
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and dental terminology standards.
- Monitor patient vital signs before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety.
- Support pediatric dentistry cases by providing specialized care tailored to children’s needs in a compassionate manner.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a general or perio dentistry setting.
- Proficiency with dental office management software such as Dentrix
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and medical coding procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation review and record keeping.
- Prior experience with chairside assisting and medical imaging techniques is advantageous.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information.
