Job Description

SMILE VALLEY PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

Part-Time Pediatric Dentist

Washington, DC

Schedule: 3 Days per Week

Position Overview

Smile Valley Pediatric Dentistry, a beloved, privately-owned pediatric dental practice in the Spring Valley neighborhood of Washington, DC, is seeking a warm and skilled Pediatric Dentist to join our team on a part-time basis, 3 days per week.

Since 2009, Smile Valley has combined concierge-level, family-style care with a bright, joyful, nationally-themed office that makes kids genuinely excited to visit the dentist. We treat infants, children, and teens, including patients with special needs, and we're looking for a doctor who shares our belief that every child deserves a calm, positive, and even fun dental experience.

Schedule & Location

3 days per week; specific days to be coordinated directly with the candidate. Office hours: Monday–Wednesday 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Thursday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Closed Fridays, weekends, and holidays. Location: 4910 Massachusetts Ave NW #311, Washington, DC 20016 (Spring Valley).

Key Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive pediatric dental care, including exams, cleanings, and preventive treatment for infants, children, and teens. Diagnose and develop treatment plans, including for patients with special healthcare needs. Perform restorative procedures such as fillings, crowns, sealants, and space maintainers as clinically indicated. Provide sedation dentistry and behavior guidance in accordance with DC regulations, where applicable. Deliver care using Smile Valley's S.A.F.E. (Sequential Approach, Familiarize, Engage) technique to help children feel comfortable and confident. Communicate clearly with parents and caregivers about treatment plans, prevention, and home care. Collaborate closely with the practice's doctors, hygienists, and support staff to deliver a consistent, family-first patient experience. Maintain accurate, compliant clinical documentation in accordance with DC recordkeeping requirements.

Required Qualifications

3-5 years of experience required. Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a CODA-accredited dental school. Completion of a CODA-accredited postgraduate residency in Pediatric Dentistry. Active, unrestricted dentist license issued by the District of Columbia Board of Dentistry. Passing scores on the National Board Dental Examination (or INBDE). Valid DEA registration. Current CPR/BLS certification. Professional liability (malpractice) insurance, or eligibility to obtain coverage. Good standing with the DC Board of Dentistry, with no unresolved disciplinary actions in any state of licensure.

Preferred Qualifications

Board certification (or active pursuit of certification) by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Experience in a private, family-oriented pediatric dental practice. Experience treating patients with dental anxiety or special healthcare needs. Training or experience with sedation dentistry for pediatric patients. A warm, patient chairside manner suited to a concierge-style, family-focused practice.

What Smile Valley Offers

A flexible, 3-day-per-week schedule in a well-established, highly-regarded DC practice. A bright, joyful, nationally-recognized office (named a Washingtonian “Top Dentist” and Washington Parent pick). An established, loyal patient base built over more than 15 years in the community.
