Responsibilities
- Assist the dentist during a variety of dental procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and organized according to infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), including intraoral and extraoral images, utilizing digital imaging systems such as 3D scanners and CBCT when required.
- Manage patient records accurately within Open Dental Electronic Dental Record (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical history updates to support comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain a sterile environment using aseptic techniques and adhere to all infection control standards to prevent cross-contamination.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions in clear, understandable language.
- Collaborate seamlessly in four-handed dentistry setups to optimize workflow and reduce procedure time.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed.
Skills
- Proficiency with Open Dental dental software platform for charting, treatment planning, scheduling, documentation, and billing.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and dental imaging techniques.
- Experience with X-ray procedures, including digital radiography and 3D scanning technologies.
- Familiarity with infection control protocols, aseptic technique, and sterilization processes within a dental clinic environment.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently while maintaining excellent patient rapport.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to medical records management and data security.
- Ability to handle dental coding accurately for insurance claims processing related to general dentistry services.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- Prior experience in dental assisting roles that involved general and cosmetic dental procedures.
