Job Description
*Job Summary * Join our dynamic dental team as a Dental Assistant (DA), where your expertise will directly enhance patient care and streamline clinical operations. In this vital role, you will assist our dentists and hygienists during procedures, manage patient records, and ensure a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for our patients. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will contribute to delivering exceptional dental services in a fast-paced, friendly private office setting. We are a small office in growing Valley Center just north of Escondido in North County San Diego. We care for our patients with a personal touch.
Duties
- Assist dentists and hygienists with various procedures including restorative, prosthodontics, endodontics, and periodontal charting.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental tools, and ensuring all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring adherence to infection control protocols and radiation safety standards.
- Manage patient records using Open Dental.
- Perform chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow and patient comfort.
- Monitor vital signs and medical imaging when necessary to support comprehensive patient assessments.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care instructions in a clear, friendly manner.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing medical documentation, and coordinating with the dental receptionist team.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to anatomy knowledge, dental terminology, and medical coding for accurate record-keeping.
- Front office duties when needed
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, medical imaging, X-ray processing, and vital signs measurement.
- Strong knowledge of EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Open Dental for efficient record management.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Experience working in general dentistry environments with exposure to pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Ability to interpret dental terminology accurately for documentation and communication purposes.
- Knowledge of infection control practices including aseptic technique and sterilization procedures.
- Competence in handling medical records, medical documentation, and medical coding related to dental care.
- Understanding of anatomy relevant to dentistry and the use of advanced tools such as 3D scanners for treatment planning.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals.
