Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry
- Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary instruments and materials, ensuring aseptic technique and infection control standards are upheld
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring proper positioning and safety protocols are followed
- Manage patient records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Monitor vital signs and medical documentation for patients with special needs or medical conditions
- Provide patient education on oral health care, post-treatment instructions, and dental terminology explanations
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and managing insurance claims with medical coding expertise
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting and four-handed dentistry
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and infection control practices
- Experience with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation
- Skilled in taking X-rays and utilizing medical imaging technology including 3D scanners when necessary
- Familiarity with HIPAA compliance to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Ability to perform vital signs assessment and assist with pediatric dentistry procedures effectively
- Knowledge of dental specialties such as prosthodontics and endodontics to support diverse treatment plans
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and educate patients about their oral health
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies like medical coding software or advanced imaging tools
