Duties
- Assist orthodontists during procedures such as bracket placement, adjustments, and removal, using four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control standards.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, including 3D scans, while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, and Epic to document treatment plans, progress notes, and medical history accurately.
- Support patients by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, and assisting with the collection of medical documentation related to orthodontic care.
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment following aseptic techniques and knowledge of dental anatomy to prevent infection.
- Collaborate with the dental receptionist to schedule appointments, update medical records, and ensure smooth patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Demonstrate proficiency in dental terminology and general dentistry practices to assist with complex procedures like prosthodontics or endodontics when needed.
Experience
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially within pediatric dentistry or orthodontics.
- Familiarity with dental assisting duties such as chairside assisting, taking X-rays, and maintaining infection control protocols is essential.
- Knowledge of EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix enhances workflow efficiency; experience with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations ensures compliance with patient privacy standards at all times.
- Strong grasp of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical coding supports accurate recordkeeping and communication within the team.
- Experience working with pediatric patients is advantageous for creating a welcoming environment for younger patients requiring orthodontic care.
