Dental Hygienist

Summary of Work: The registered dental hygienist provides oral care such as regular cleanings, polishing, x-rays, applications of sealants, fluorides, scaling/root planning and related procedures to patients. They also provide information to assist with developing and maintaining good oral health under the general supervision of the dentist.

Essential Job Functions: • Prepares dental equipment and instruments for patients' treatment • As assigned, performs patient triage and initiates patient care as appropriate to patients using dental hygiene procedures • Performs routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants and fluorides and related procedures • Develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients • Educates patient on dental care • Records and reports pertinent observations relating to the patients in Dentrix • Schedules patients' appointments in Dentrix • Communicates clinical information to Treatment Coordinators as needed for purposes of treatment planning • Prepares, reports and assists with patient telephone calls to specialists • Sterilizes operatory, equipment and takes instruments to lab for sterilization in preparation for next patient • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Education: Graduate from accredited Associate or BS dental hygiene program

Qualifications: • Current NC Dental Hygiene license • Minimum of 1 year of experience • Current CPR certification • Maintains required CE hours • Communication Proficiency • Patient Focus/Care • Ethical Conduct • Organizational Skills • Problem Solving/Analysis • Thoroughness • Time Management • Exhibits Patient Satisfaction Standards as stated in handbook
