Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services including prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, and stains.
- Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and dental charts to develop personalized treatment plans.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using digital imaging technology while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and the importance of regular dental visits to promote lifelong oral health.
- Assist with chairside procedures in general dentistry settings, including four-handed dentistry practices that enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Follow strict infection prevention protocols by practicing aseptic techniques, managing infection control procedures, and adhering to healthcare infection prevention standards.
- Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with dental office policies; assist with medical coding as needed.
- Support the dental team by preparing treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies while maintaining a sterile environment.
- Monitor patient vital signs before procedures to ensure safety during treatments involving sedation or anesthesia.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current credentials.
- Proven experience working in dental clinics or healthcare settings with proficiency in dental assisting and chairside procedures.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with EMR systems is preferred.
- Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards aligned with HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs measurement and medical imaging procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration within pediatric dentistry or general dentistry environments.
- Knowledge of medical coding practices related to dental procedures for accurate documentation review.
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance management policies.
