Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive dental hygiene services including prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, and polishing to remove plaque, tartar, and stains.
• Conduct patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and dental charts to develop personalized treatment plans.
• Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using digital imaging technology while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and the importance of regular dental visits to promote lifelong oral health.
• Assist with chairside procedures in general dentistry settings, including four-handed dentistry practices that enhance efficiency and patient comfort.
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records in electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
• Follow strict infection prevention protocols by practicing aseptic techniques, managing infection control procedures, and adhering to healthcare infection prevention standards.
• Review documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with dental office policies; assist with medical coding as needed.
• Support the dental team by preparing treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies while maintaining a sterile environment.
• Monitor patient vital signs before procedures to ensure safety during treatments involving sedation or anesthesia.

Qualifications

• Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current credentials.
• Proven experience working in dental clinics or healthcare settings with proficiency in dental assisting and chairside procedures.
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and dental equipment operation.
• Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; experience with EMR systems is preferred.
• Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic techniques, and healthcare infection control standards aligned with HIPAA regulations.
• Ability to perform detailed patient assessments including vital signs measurement and medical imaging procedures.
• Excellent communication skills for patient education and team collaboration within pediatric dentistry or general dentistry environments.
• Knowledge of medical coding practices related to dental procedures for accurate documentation review.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA compliance management policies.
