We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Orthodontic Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) or Orthodontic Assistant (OA) to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in orthodontic procedures, patient care, and dental assisting, with a focus on delivering exceptional service within a fast-paced clinical environment. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting orthodontists in delivering comprehensive orthodontic treatments, ensuring patient comfort, and adhering to strict infection control protocols.
Duties
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance installations using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and ensuring all orthodontic equipment such as 3D scanners and dental x-ray machines are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Take and develop dental radiographs, including intraoral and panoramic x-rays, while adhering to HIPAA guidelines for patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Manage patient records accurately within EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, documenting treatment progress, vital signs, and medical history details.
- Provide patient education on orthodontic care, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric dentistry and general dentistry patients.
- Assist with dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic techniques to ensure a safe clinical environment.
- Support the dental reception team by managing appointment scheduling, patient flow, and answering patient inquiries professionally.
- Maintain clinical supplies and dental instruments processing to ensure readiness for daily procedures while adhering to infection control protocols.
- Monitor patient comfort during procedures by managing medical imaging devices and assisting with oral surgery or endodontic treatments when necessary.
Experience
- Proven experience working as an Orthodontic RDA or OA within a busy dental clinic environment.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical confidentiality policies applicable to healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for efficient patient management.
- Hands-on experience with dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic techniques.
- Proficiency in taking dental x-rays, including digital imaging techniques relevant to orthodontics.
- Experience supporting pediatric dentistry cases is highly desirable along with general dentistry exposure.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages while demonstrating excellent customer service skills.
