Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and reviewing medical records to ensure safe treatment plans
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while maintaining radiation safety protocols
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health
- Assist with chairside procedures in four-handed dentistry, ensuring smooth workflow between dentist and hygienist
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care, treatment plans, and medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems. We use Open Dental.
- Follow infection prevention management protocols, including aseptic techniques and infection control standards aligned with HIPAA compliance
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current credentials to practice legally
- Proven experience in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry environments is highly preferred
- Proficiency in dental terminology, dental equipment operation, and medical terminology for accurate patient assessment and documentation
- Familiarity with EHR/EHR system for efficient record keeping and documentation review. We use Open Dental.
- Strong understanding of healthcare infection prevention, control practices, and HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality
- Ability to perform dental x-ray procedures safely while adhering to radiation safety standards
- Excellent client communication skills with a focus on patient education and comfort during procedures
- Knowledge of anatomy relevant to dental care is advantageous
