Duties
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical histories, and evaluating oral health status.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring proper technique and patient safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote long-term oral health.
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic health records (EHR) using systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow infection prevention protocols by adhering to aseptic techniques, sterilization procedures, and infection control standards.
- Monitor and operate dental equipment efficiently while ensuring all tools are properly maintained and sanitized.
- Collaborate with the dental team to ensure smooth clinic operations, including documentation review and medical coding when necessary.
- Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, fostering a trusting environment for all patients.Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist within a general or pediatric dentistry setting.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and infection control procedures.
- Experience performing dental x-rays (radiography) with attention to safety standards for patients and staff.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry practices is preferred to effectively serve younger patients.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting duties including instrument transfer and patient support during procedures.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices, including aseptic technique and sterilization processes.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients on oral health maintenance effectively.
- Understanding of medical records management, medical coding, and EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation review.
