Dental Hygienist
Job Description
Dental Hygienist — 3 Days/Week — ~$60/hr + Benefits
One patient at a time. No assisted hygiene. No double-booking.
We don't double-book hygiene. Not on busy days, not when we're behind, not ever.
We also don't run an accelerated or assisted-hygiene model, and we don't make hygienists clock out in the middle of the day because a patient cancels or no-shows.
We're looking for someone who wants a long-term home in a practice built around good dentistry, good patient relationships, and a sustainable workday.
This is a permanent three-day position replacing a retiring hygienist.
About Pinecone Dental Care
Pinecone Dental Care is a boutique restorative practice on SE Cesar Chavez Blvd in Portland. Dr. Zhu trained at the University of Michigan and has completed hundreds of hours of advanced education through the Kois Center. Our practice focuses on conservative, adhesive and biomimetic restorative dentistry.
We are intentionally unhurried. Our patients come here because they value that approach, and many stay with us for years.
The Hygiene Model
Our hygiene protocol combines:
- Ultrasonic instrumentation
- Hand scaling
- Air polishing
- Comprehensive periodontal assessment
- Patient education and prevention
If you've trained in GBT principles and haven't had the schedule or equipment to really use them, this is a place where you can.
New-patient appointments are two full hours.
Recall appointments are one full hour.
Your first comprehensive patient shouldn't feel rushed, and neither should your hundredth.
Schedule
WednesdayFriday OR TuesdayThursday
Three permanent days per week.
No evenings. No weekends.
No routine double-booking or assisted hygiene.
If a patient cancels or no-shows during your scheduled workday, we don't automatically send you home or require you to clock out. There is always useful work to do, and we're trying to build a long-term employment relationship rather than treat every hour transactionally.
Compensation & Benefits
Approximately $60/hour base pay, depending on experience and fit.
Benefits include:
- Employee health-insurance premium paid 100% by the practice, subject to plan eligibility
- *401(k) with employer match after eligibility *(100% match on the first 3% you contribute, 50% match on the next 2%)
- $50/month employer contribution to your HSA when enrolled in an eligible plan
- Paid sick time accruing from day one
- *Paid time off: * One week during year 1 & 2, two weeks at year 3, three weeks at year 4 and beyond
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Careful and clinically thoughtful
- Warm and comfortable talking with patients
- Curious and interested in improving

- Comfortable working collaboratively
- More interested in doing excellent dentistry than simply working faster
You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We would rather hire someone thoughtful who wants to become excellent over the next several years than someone whose main priority is speed.
