Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) accurately while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Assess vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration to monitor patient health during visits.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health.
- Assist the dentist during procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency and patient comfort.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) using systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring all documentation complies with HIPAA regulations.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment, to uphold the highest standards of safety and hygiene.
Qualifications
- Valid state licensure as a Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice in a clinical setting.
- Proven experience in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry environments with familiarity using Dental software.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, and anatomy relevant to dental care.
- Experience with dental x-ray procedures, medical imaging, and maintaining medical records within EMR/EHR systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatrics, providing clear instructions and reassurance.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control practices, including HIPAA compliance management.
- Excellent patient care skills with a focus on maintaining patient confidentiality and delivering compassionate service in a team-oriented setting.
