Responsibilities
- Assist dentists chairside during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery.
- Prepare treatment rooms with dental instruments, supplies, and equipment ensuring all items are sterilized and ready for use in accordance with infection prevention management policies.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) while maintaining strict adherence to dental x-ray safety standards and HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, treatment plans, and clinical notes.
- Perform vital signs assessments and medical imaging to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Educate patients on oral health care procedures, post-treatment instructions, and preventive practices to promote ongoing oral health.
- Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and dental sterilization procedures.
- Support the dental reception team by managing patient flow, scheduling appointments, and handling administrative tasks with professionalism.
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for efficient patient data management.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across various specialties including pediatric dentistry and oral surgery.
- Experience with dental instrument processing, sterilization techniques, and infection prevention management.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including 3D scanners, X-ray machines, and other diagnostic tools safely and effectively.
- Skilled in chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to optimize workflow during procedures.
- Familiarity with healthcare infection control standards and medical documentation practices in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Excellent communication skills to educate patients clearly about treatment plans and oral health practices.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to dentistry and general healthcare settings.
