Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical history, and dental examinations to identify oral health issues.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while ensuring radiation safety protocols are followed.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to enhance their understanding of dental health.
- Assist dentists during procedures through chairside support, including handling instruments and managing dental equipment with aseptic technique.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
- Follow infection prevention protocols by adhering to healthcare infection control standards, including sterilization procedures and maintaining a sterile environment.
Requirements
- Valid state licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist with current certification to practice.
- Proven experience in general dentistry and pediatric dentistry settings, with familiarity in pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency in using Open Dental.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical coding practices.
- Skilled in chairside assisting techniques, including handling dental equipment and performing X-ray procedures safely.
- Expertise in infection prevention management, aseptic technique, and healthcare infection control standards.
- Excellent communication skills for client engagement, patient education, and team collaboration.
- Ability to accurately assess patient needs through thorough evaluation of medical records and documentation review.
