Duties

  • Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while ensuring patient safety.
  • Conduct patient assessments by measuring vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and evaluating oral health status.
  • Educate patients on proper dental care practices, including brushing, flossing, and preventive measures tailored to pediatric dentistry when applicable.
  • Assist with chairside procedures such as cavity fillings, sealants, and other general dentistry treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like open dental) by documenting treatment details, medical coding, and reviewing documentation for accuracy.
  • Follow infection prevention protocols using aseptic techniques to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.

Skills

  • Proficiency with dental software systems such as open dental for managing medical records and documentation review.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and medical imaging procedures.
  • Experience in pediatric dentistry is highly desirable, with the ability to communicate effectively with children and their families.
  • Expertise in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, X-ray operation, and maintaining dental equipment.
  • Excellent patient care skills with a focus on client communication and education to promote oral health awareness.
  • Knowledge of healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including infection prevention management and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail in documentation review and medical coding processes.
