Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part-Time Orthodontic Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in dental assisting, with specific experience in orthodontic procedures and patient care. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to patient treatment plans, support orthodontists, and ensure the smooth operation of our orthodontic practice. The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in clinical procedures, patient management, and maintaining high standards of infection control and confidentiality.
Duties
- Assist orthodontists during patient examinations and procedures, including placement and adjustment of braces and appliances.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and setting up necessary equipment in accordance with infection prevention protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans, ensuring proper technique and patient comfort.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
- Provide patient education on orthodontic care, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment instructions.
- Monitor vital signs and assess patient comfort throughout procedures to ensure safety and well-being.
- Maintain clinical cleanliness by adhering to sterilization procedures for dental instruments and equipment.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a dental assistant with a focus on orthodontics or pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for medical documentation and records management.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control standards including HIPAA compliance.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and sterilization devices effectively.
- Strong understanding of dental anatomy, oral surgery procedures, endodontics, prosthodontics, and general dentistry practices.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to educate patients clearly and compassionately.
- Certification in dental assisting or equivalent training is required; additional certification in radiography or orthodontic assisting is a plus.
- Familiarity with pediatric dentistry principles and healthcare infection prevention protocols is highly desirable.
