Job Description
The Staff Dentist provides comprehensive and emergency dental services in accordance with Valley View Health Centers clinical guidelines and Ohio State Dental Board regulations. This role supports operational excellence, resident education (when applicable), quality improvement initiatives, and collaborative team-based patient care to promote optimal oral health outcomes.
Essential Functions
Functional Area: Patient Care / Operational Excellence
Estimated Effort: 70%
Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes, and Expectations:
Provide comprehensive and emergency dental services including:
Diagnosis and treatment planning
General restorative procedures
Minor oral surgery
Uncomplicated endodontics
Fixed and removable prosthodontics
Review patient vitals, medical history, social history, and health status prior to treatment
Prescribe and interpret radiographs and laboratory studies
Make appropriate referrals to in-house providers or specialty care
Provide oral health education to patients and families
Ensure a positive, compassionate patient experience
Manage difficult or complex patient situations with professionalism and sound judgment
Exercise professional judgment consistent with VV policies, dental standards of care, quality improvement activities, safety standards, and infection control protocols
Maintain clinical and charting standards in accordance with Dental Director expectations
Support continuous quality assurance and improvement initiatives
Maintain competency in clinical procedures and documentation requirements
Prepare and confirm laboratory cases
Functional Area: Clinical Resident Supervision
Estimated Effort: 15%
Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes, and Expectations:
Supervise, instruct, and train dental residents in a clinical setting
Provide clinical teaching to residents and students to ensure continuity of patient care
Participate in didactic presentations related to patient care
Complete resident clinical evaluations in a timely manner
Model and promote evidence-based clinical practice
Supervise resident clinical training and assess competency
Participate in clinic conferences and case discussions
Review resident clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness
Functional Area: Administrative / Continuous Quality Performance
Estimated Effort: 10%
Responsibilities, Deliverables, Outcomes, and Expectations:
Participate in daily morning huddles
Provide clinical leadership and supervision to dental hygienists, EFDAs, and dental assistants
Foster positive collaboration with dental providers and clinical staff
Support operational success through teamwork and communication
Meet or exceed measurable standards of care, quality benchmarks, and productivity goals
Participate in community dental outreach programs
Manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations effectively
Ensure duties are completed professionally and timely
Maintain strict patient confidentiality
Functional Area: Service and Other Responsibilities

Serve on committees, work groups, or service teams within VVHC and CAC as assigned
Demonstrate commitment to the organization’s mission of promoting oral health
Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Education
DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited dental program
Job-Related Experience
Preference given to direct patient care experience in a community health center and/or FQHC dental program
Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations
Current, active, or eligibility for Ohio State Dental Board license
Current Healthcare Provider CPR and AED certification (American Heart Association)
Direct Patient Care Requirements
Primary source verification of licensure, registration, and certification
Verification of education and training
Completion of Office of Inspector General (OIG) query
Health/Fit for Duty verification, including physical and mental health status
Three (3) professional letters of recommendation
Current BLS/CPR certification
Proof of Hepatitis B immunity (documentation of HBV series or immunity)
