Responsibilities
- Assist the oral surgeon during surgical procedures by preparing and passing dental instruments and materials efficiently.
- Ensure all dental instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and maintained according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring accurate imaging for diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Manage patient records and medical documentation with strict adherence to clinical confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations.
- Prepare treatment areas, ensuring all dental equipment is functioning correctly, including dental chairs, lighting, suction devices, and other surgical tools.
- Monitor vital signs of patients before, during, and after procedures to ensure safety and comfort.
- Support patient care by providing clear instructions, managing patient anxiety, and ensuring a welcoming environment throughout their visit.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant with specialization or interest in oral surgery or pediatric dentistry preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for managing medical records and patient information.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and sterilization procedures.
- Ability to operate dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and other clinical tools safely and effectively.
- Familiarity with healthcare infection prevention protocols such as aseptic technique and medical imaging standards.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate seamlessly with the dental team including dentists, hygienists, receptionists, and patients.
- Certification in dental assisting or related healthcare fields is highly desirable; ongoing education in endodontics or prosthodontics is a plus.
