Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures including restorative work, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring smooth clinical flow.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments and equipment according to infection prevention management protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray) using advanced equipment such as 3D scanners and dental x-ray machines while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring all documentation complies with medical terminology standards.
- Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, managing suction devices, and supporting four-handed dentistry techniques for efficient patient care.
- Monitor vital signs and assist with medical imaging procedures to ensure patient safety before treatments.
- Support patient management by greeting patients as a dental receptionist would, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow with professionalism and compassion.
- Follow dental sterilization procedures meticulously to uphold infection prevention standards and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care instructions, and preventive measures tailored to pediatric or adult dentistry needs.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, dental instrument processing, and aseptic technique.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and clinical procedures across general dentistry disciplines such as endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery.
- Experience operating dental equipment including X-ray machines, 3D scanners, dental sterilizers, and other diagnostic tools.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft for seamless medical documentation management.
- Ability to adhere strictly to healthcare infection prevention and control policies while maintaining clinical confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with the dental team and provide compassionate patient care—especially in pediatric dentistry environments.
- Knowledge of healthcare infection control standards and medical documentation practices aligned with HIPAA regulations.
