Orthodontic Dental Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assist orthodontists during patient procedures with chairside support, including handling dental instruments and materials
• Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental equipment in accordance with infection prevention management policies
• Take dental X-rays and 3D scans while adhering to dental sterilization procedures and safety protocols
• Manage patient records using, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Educate patients on orthodontic care, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment instructions to promote optimal outcomes
• Monitor vital signs and medical documentation for patients with special needs or pediatric dentistry considerations
• Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient flow through patient management software, and assisting the dental receptionist as needed

Skills

• Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and chairside assisting in orthodontics and general dentistry
• Experience with dental X-ray procedures, medical imaging, and the use of dental equipment such as 3D scanners and dental sterilization tools
• Familiarity with healthcare infection prevention and control practices, aseptic techniques, and clinical confidentiality policies
• Ability to operate patient management software efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care standards
• Knowledge of infection control protocols specific to dental clinics to ensure safety for patients and staff alike
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and other healthcare professionals
