Certified Orthodontic Assistant

Jeffrey Kwong Orthodontics is looking for a dedicated Orthodontic Assistant (OA) to join our team! This position involves assisting the orthodontist in delivering excellent patient care and supporting a wide variety of clinical and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing chairside assistance, managing patient records, sterilization procedures, laboratory duties, patient education, and practice promotion. This is a full-time role with opportunities for ongoing professional development.

Essential Functions:

• Clinical Assisting: Assist orthodontist during procedures, provide hand instruments and materials, and help ensure patient comfort.
• Patient Care Delivery: Greet and seat patients, evaluate oral hygiene and cooperation, assist with treatment procedures such as bonding, appliance fitting, adjustments, and removals.
• X-rays & Diagnostics: Take and develop X-rays, digital impressions (iTero), intraoral and extraoral photographs, and document medical histories and treatment information.
• Treatment Documentation & Systems Management: Accurately record patient data and update practice systems.
• Sterilization & Infection Control: Follow all OSHA, CDC, and office standards for sterilization and infection control. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize equipment and workspaces.
• Patient Education & Motivation: Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliances, and treatment plans. Encourage patient compliance and address concerns.
• Laboratory Duties: Prepare models, fabricate retainers, space maintenance appliances, and support indirect bonding preparations. Process and cure 3D models and trim retainers for comfort.
• Practice Promotion & Patient Relations: Maintain positive relationships with referring dentists and local professionals. Support marketing initiatives and publicize patient contests. Send thank-you notes and celebrate milestones like debanding.

Miscellaneous Duties:

• Inventory management, ordering supplies, and equipment maintenance.
• Organize and maintain new patient kits and office cleanliness.
• Coordinate progress reviews and emergency appointments as needed.
• Participate in staff meetings and assist with coaching new team members.

Experience & Education:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
• Must complete an 8-hour infection control course.
• X-ray certification required.
• Previous experience as a Dental Assistant or Orthodontic Assistant is preferred but not mandatory.
