Dental Specialist - Clinical Reviewer (Texas)
Job Description
Overview
Dane Street is seeking an experienced, licensed Dental Specialist to join our growing team of expert clinical reviewers. In this role, you will apply your specialized clinical knowledge and expertise in dentistry to conduct comprehensive reviews of dental records, clinical examinations, diagnostic imaging, treatment plans, and supporting documentation to provide objective, evidence-based advisory opinions.
This is a fully remote 1099 independent contractor opportunity for a dental professional who currently resides in Texas and maintains an active, unrestricted Texas dental license. You can customize your schedule and select case types and workload based on your availability and areas of clinical expertise.
Your primary responsibilities will include reviewing dental records and clinical documentation, evaluating diagnostic findings and proposed treatment plans, assessing the medical necessity and appropriateness of dental services, preparing clear and concise clinical summaries, and responding to specific questions from clients related to dental care and treatment within your specialty.
This role involves advisory clinical record reviews and requires participation in peer-to-peer telephone calls on a per-case basis, as needed. These calls may involve discussions with treating providers regarding clinical findings, treatment recommendations, medical necessity, and the appropriateness of dental services. The role does not involve direct patient care or providing dental treatment.
We are particularly seeking professionals with expertise in:
Comprehensive dental evaluations and clinical assessments
General dentistry and restorative dentistry
Dental treatment planning and clinical recommendations
Oral surgery and surgical dental procedures
Endodontics and periodontal treatment
Prosthodontics, crowns, bridges, and dental restorations
Dental implants and implant-supported restorations
Orthodontics and dentofacial treatment, as applicable
Oral and maxillofacial pathology, as applicable
Review and interpretation of dental radiographs and diagnostic imaging
Evaluation of dental records, clinical documentation, and treatment histories
Evidence-based assessment of dental procedures and interventions
Medical necessity, appropriateness of care, and applicable dental standards of care
Join a team that values clinical expertise, sound professional judgment, and objective analysis. Your expertise will play an important role in supporting high-quality, accurate, consistent, and defensible healthcare assessments.
Requirements
DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental educational program.
Current, active, and unrestricted Texas dental license.
Must currently reside in Texas.
Minimum of five years of clinical experience in dentistry.
Specialty training, board certification, or advanced clinical experience preferred for specialty-specific case reviews.
Experience evaluating dental records, clinical examinations, diagnostic imaging, treatment plans, and supporting documentation.

Maintains appropriate credentialing, state licensure, and certifications required to perform the role.
Strong clinical judgment and the ability to communicate findings clearly, objectively, and concisely in writing.
Comfortable reviewing complex dental records and applying evidence-based clinical standards.
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to participate in professional peer-to-peer telephone discussions with treating providers on a per-case basis.
Ability to work independently and meet established case review deadlines.
Benefits

Ability to choose case types and workload based on your availability and clinical expertise.
Fully remote work from within Texas.
Peer-to-peer telephone calls required on a per-case basis, as applicable to assigned reviews.

Streamlined case flow through a user-friendly online work portal.
Dane Street manages administrative processes, medical record organization, and client communications.
Fully prepared cases with organized dental records and applicable clinical guidelines.
Initial training provided, along with ongoing support and a dedicated point of contact.

Candidates must currently reside in Texas and maintain an active, unrestricted Texas dental license to be considered for this opportunity.
A DDS or DMD degree is required. Candidates with recognized dental specialty training or board certification may be considered for specialty-specific clinical review assignments based on their qualifications and experience.
My recommendation: The wording "peer-to-peer telephone calls required on a per-case basis, as applicable to assigned reviews" is important because it sets the expectation upfront without suggesting that every single case will require a call.
